About Mainstay
Mainstay exists to make Business Improvement Areas more effective, regardless of who sits on the board or holds the coordinator role, by preserving what the organization knows and reducing the work it takes to run.
Community is the heart of what makes us human, and downtowns are where community still happens in real life. As commerce moved online and out to the big box strips off the highway, the local main street quietly became something rarer and more valuable: the place you run into people, discover something unique, share a meal, and feel like you belong to something.
Business Improvement Areas are how a community organizes to protect and grow that. But the organizations themselves are fragile. They run on the memory of one or two dedicated people. When those people leave, the institutional knowledge, the vendors, the decisions, the hard-won lessons, walks out the door with them.
We think that's the single biggest thing holding BIAs back. So we built an operating system that remembers, so the mission can compound instead of resetting every few years.
Reduce work, never add it
Every feature has to remove effort. If it creates busywork without real value, it doesn't belong.
Knowledge belongs to the organization
Not to any one coordinator or board. It should get stronger every year, through every transition.
AI assists, humans govern
The assistant summarizes, organizes, and recommends from your own records. It never invents facts or makes decisions.
Calm and capable
Coordinators are stretched thin. The software should feel organized and supportive, never overwhelming.
A BIA that keeps its memory doesn't just avoid mistakes, it builds on everything it has already learned. The second festival is easier than the first. Vendor relationships carry forward. New board members understand the organization in a day, not a year. Momentum accumulates instead of leaking away with every departure.
That is the promise of Mainstay: preserve organizational memory, reduce the operational burden, and let the good work compound.
